According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 16 October 2022 has increased by 10.74 % compared to 2021 and reached 40.23 TWh.
On the other hand, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption decreased in the same period, by 0.99 % reaching a total of 29.86 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 10.36 TWh so far in 2022, 68.1 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 33.88 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 15.1 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 25.99 % to 1,286 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 15.53 % to 1,836.7 GWh.
