According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 3 July 2022 has increased by 17.36 % compared to 2021 and reached 26.95 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 1.2 % reaching a total of 20.16 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 6.79 TWh so far in 2022, 123.3 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 22.65 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 26.7 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 21.35 % to 809.7 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 16.44 % to 1,173.1 GWh.
