According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 31 July 2022 has increased by 16.45 % compared to 2021 and reached 30.77 TWh.
In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose in the same period, by 0.61 % reaching a total of 22.87 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 7.91 TWh so far in 2022, 113.7 % more than in the same period in 2021. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 25.87 TWh of electricity in 2022, which is 24.5 % more than in 2021.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network rose by 21.85 % to 936.2 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network increased by 15.87 % to 1,361.8 GWh.
