According to data released by the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute, electricity production in March 2026 increased by 6.3 percent compared to February, reaching 3,724 GWh. At the same time, electricity consumption declined by 5.5 percent on a monthly basis, totaling 3,277 GWh.
Natural gas consumption recorded a slight increase of 0.6 percent compared to the previous month, amounting to 313 million cubic meters, while domestic natural gas production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters.
On an annual basis, the energy sector showed stronger growth. Compared to March 2025, electricity production increased by 7.3 percent, while electricity consumption rose by 11.3 percent. Natural gas consumption also posted significant growth, rising by 19.9 percent year-on-year.
The petroleum sector recorded notable increases in both production and consumption. Production of unleaded petrol grew by 14.8 percent, reaching 132,000 tons, while consumption surged by 27 percent to 47,000 tons. Diesel production increased by 4.3 percent to 240,000 tons, and diesel consumption climbed by 31.7 percent, totaling 241,000 tons.
In the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) segment, production rose sharply by 75 percent to 7,000 tons, while consumption decreased slightly by 2.9 percent to 33,000 tons.
Meanwhile, the solid fuels sector experienced a significant decline. Production of solid fuels fell by 28.3 percent year-on-year to 959 thousand tons, while consumption decreased by 26.1 percent to 1,024 thousand tons, reflecting the continued reduction in the use of traditional fuel sources.
