According to data published by Electricity System Operator (ESO), electricity production in Bulgaria between 1 January and 15 February 2026 declined by 4.84% compared to the same period in 2025, totaling 6.13 TWh. At the same time, domestic demand moved in the opposite direction, with electricity consumption rising by 7.5% year-on-year to reach 6.59 TWh, resulting in net imports of 462 GWh.
Baseload generation from coal and nuclear power plants amounted to 4.65 TWh, marking a 14.1% decrease from the previous year and indicating a notable shift in the production mix. Meanwhile, the contribution of renewable energy sources showed mixed trends. Output from renewables connected to the transmission network edged up by 1.96% to 374.1 GWh, while renewable generation within the distribution network fell by 15.75% to 312.1 GWh, highlighting uneven dynamics across segments of the power system.
