According to data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, electricity production in Bulgaria between 1 January and 15 March 2026 decreased by 5.62% compared to 2025, reaching a total of 9.58 TWh.
At the same time, electricity consumption in Bulgaria rose by 4.72%, totaling 10.09 TWh. As a result, net electricity imports amounted to 508 GWh during this period.
Baseload power plants, including coal and nuclear, generated a total of 6.89 TWh, marking a 17.8% decline compared to the same period in 2025.
The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network increased by 2.45%, reaching 657.9 GWh, while the RES contribution in the country’s distribution network decreased by 5.78%, totaling 600.4 GWh.
