According to data published by the Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, electricity production in Bulgaria during the period from 1 January to 3 May 2026 increased by 0.18% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching a total of 15.5 TWh.
Electricity consumption in Bulgaria rose more significantly in 2026, increasing by 6.83% to a total of 15.46 TWh. As a result, net electricity imports amounted to 41.9 GWh over the observed period.
Baseload power plants, including coal and nuclear facilities, generated a total of 10.81 TWh of electricity in 2026, representing a decline of 12% compared to 2025.
At the same time, the share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network increased by 5.91%, reaching 1,175.5 GWh. In contrast, the RES share in the distribution network slightly decreased by 0.15%, totaling 1,170.2 GWh.
