After a prolonged slowdown in wind development, Bulgaria’s renewable sector is beginning to show renewed momentum with a new turbine supply agreement secured by Vestas Wind Systems. The company has been selected to provide equipment for a 70 MW wind project developed by Tessa Green Energy, signaling a potential revival of investment in the country’s wind industry.
The order includes 11 EnVentus V162-6.4 MW turbines, which will be installed at the Strazhitsa wind farm. This project is widely seen as a key step toward restarting large-scale wind development in Bulgaria after years of limited activity in the sector.
Preparations for construction are already in progress, with local firm DMT Prime also participating in the development. According to company representatives, the project is expected to become the first major wind installation in Bulgaria in more than a decade, marking a significant milestone for the industry.
The agreement between Vestas and Tessa Green Energy also includes a long-term service contract, ensuring continuous maintenance and operational support. Turbine deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2027, with commissioning planned for mid-2027.
Company officials emphasized the strategic importance of the deal. For Vestas, the contract represents a meaningful return to project activity in Bulgaria, where it has been active since 2007 and has installed over 360 MW of capacity. For Tessa Green Energy, the partnership provides a strong foundation for regional expansion and a strengthened position within the renewable energy market.
