The largest undertaken project by power utility HEP in the history of modern Croatia has started in Lika – the realization of two megaprojects – the construction of Kosinj hydropower system and Senj 2 hydropower plant have started, and investment of almost 450 million euros.
This year, HEP launched the implementation of the second phase of the Kosinj-Senj hydropower system, which consists of two segments: the construction of the Kosinj hydropower system and HPP Senj 2, with a total capacity of 412 MW.
HEP’s largest investment in modern Croatia is worth almost 450 million euros and the development of the project has been intermittent for several decades now. HEP’s current management has made investment decisions for both segments of the project and actually started the investment. Positive decisions were obtained based on environmental aspects of both projects, with location permits obtained, in 2019 for HES Kosinj and in 2020 for HPP Senj.
In June, HEP launched two tenders related to the largest hydro project in Croatia in the past three decades – the Kosinj-Senj hydropower system. The two tenders address the development of the main project for hydropower plant Senj 2 and the construction of a tunnel and channel Bakovac-Lika. The tender for the development of the main project for HPP Senj 2, whose estimated value is 8.9 million euros, envisages the development of the main project and all other documentation for obtaining building permits for the construction of a new hydropower plant. The estimated time for the completion of the main design is 24 months.
