According to short-term energy statistics from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, Croatia’s net electricity production in December 2025 totaled 1,389 GWh, representing a 10.1% decrease compared to December 2024, when production reached 1,545 GWh.
Hydropower plants generated 558 GWh, accounting for 40.2% of total electricity, while thermal power plants contributed 472 GWh or 34%. Wind farms produced 241 GWh, representing 17.4%, and solar power plants generated 38 GWh, or 2.7% of the total electricity output.
During the same period, Croatia imported 1,118 GWh of electricity, a slight decrease of 1.2% compared to December 2024 (1,131 GWh). Electricity exports fell more sharply, totaling 711 GWh, which is 19.7% lower than in the same month last year (885 GWh).
Regarding hydrocarbon production, Croatia produced 66 million cubic meters of natural gas in December 2025, an increase of 3.1% compared to December 2024. Natural gas imports rose significantly, reaching 287 million cubic meters, up 58.5% from the previous year. Crude oil production totaled 39,000 tons, marking a 7.2% decline, while production of petroleum products increased to 324,000 tons, compared to 299,000 tons in December 2024.
The data highlight a decline in domestic electricity generation, driven largely by reduced output in thermal and hydropower facilities, while Croatia’s reliance on imports and natural gas continues to grow.
