In March, Croatian state-owned power utility HEP has launched pre-qualification tender for the construction of a new combined-cycle cogeneration gas unit at the location of the existing CHPP Zagreb, as part of the modernization of an entire site.
The estimated value of this investment is around 138 million euros. According to HEP, the new unit will replace the existing unit A and eventually replace some other units at CHPP Zagreb. It is a highly efficient cogeneration unit with significant saving in primary energy during the connecting process of heat and electricity production, with the projected overall efficiency of 90 % at yearly level. Thermal output of the unit should be about 100 MW.
With the planned increase of power output of the unit from 90 to about 150 MW, CHPP Zagreb will become a reliable support of stable supply of electricity in western and northern parts of the city. This is particularly important in case of emergencies in the power system as it reduces interruptions in the supply of electricity and heat in Zagreb to a minimum. New production unit will also enable higher electricity production outside the heating season.
Pre-qualification tender is open until 3 May, after which the invitations for the submission of bids will be sent to qualified bidders. Contracting the construction, obtaining the building permits and start of preliminary works is expected late this year or early next year, while the construction should last three years.
