Hotel management company Valamar Riviera has signed an agreement to join KOER, Croatia’s first virtual power plant. The company aims to boost sustainability and improve the balance of the national energy supply sector, Valamar said in a statement.
The company added that it makes available electricity aggregates at 12 locations from Porec to Dubrovnik with the aim of balancing the electricity supply network. The overall available power for that project is 4 MW as the aggregates which otherwise are used as reserve power supply sources will be used to ease the burden on the electricity supply system at the moments of peak load.
Valamar has been investing in renewable energy sources and energy efficiency improvements since 2010 and by joining KOER, the company has taken the first step in the electricity market.
In 2022, KOER signed a contract with electricity transmission system operator HOPS and launched the first Croatian virtual power plant.
