Zmajlovic is assured the HPP Ombla will not be insisted on, but not everyone thinks that way.
The Government will decide about the construction of HPP Ombla project, it was stated by government representatives. The plan for directing biodiversity done by EBRD’s consultants will be finally represented to the government.
“Research is over, it has not been officially represented yet but unofficial information shows that some endemic kinds were determined i.e. kinds that are strictly protected that will be endangered with this investment. I believe that we shouldn’t launch this project, considering the project’s feasibility.
However, the final decision will be made by government i.e. HEP, HEP is the investor. I believe that they won’t insist on investment when they think about all these arguments”, Zmajlevic said when journalist asked him- what will happen with HPP Ombla after he represented the draft of Law’s proposal for environmental protection.
Zmajlovic said that Croatia as one serious and responsible country that enters EU in a few months can’t launch take investments in spite of we have all licenses, they are opposite of EU directives so it will be hypocritically to take these investments. According to “Vecernji List”, not everyone in government think that way and one unnamed official said that project has all permissions, economy is dying for these investments and he doesn’t think that it can endanger environment, so it should be done, according to his opinion.
