Romanian infrastructure group E-Infra is preparing a 95.5 MW battery storage project in Satu Mare county through its Nova Power & Gas subsidiary, expanding a portfolio that already gives the group a material position in Romania’s balancing market.
The proposed IS Roșiori – Stage One facility would be developed at Valea Vinului and connected to the transmission system through the Roșiori substation. An establishment authorisation would remain valid until the end of November 2027.
The project has not disclosed its final energy capacity, but the planned configuration is expected to provide roughly two hours of storage. Nova Power & Gas is also developing a solar project at the same site, creating the potential for closer integration between renewable production and dispatchable battery capacity.
E-Infra has already demonstrated its ability to execute at utility scale. In December 2025, Nova Power & Gas commissioned a 200 MW/400 MWh battery at Florești in Cluj county. The installation includes 45 battery containers, 30 transformer points and a dedicated 110/33 kV substation, and participates in balancing and system-services markets.
Romanian storage capacity is expanding quickly. Connected battery capacity reached 989 MW and 1,975 MWh at the beginning of August, compared with around 1,100 MWh at the end of April.
The speed of expansion is beginning to alter the commercial structure of the electricity market, with batteries moving from niche balancing assets toward infrastructure capable of absorbing midday renewable surpluses and supplying higher-value evening periods.
