EBRD and EIB are investigating project mismanagement in Slovenia biggest power generation construction project, stated the Slovenian news agency STA. EBRD is coordinating the investigation with co-financing partner EIB but also with authorities from Slovenia.
Slovenian anti-corruption body stated that the project of construction of new power gen thermal plant was managed without transparency and with high conflict of interest. The main equipment contractor is Alstom. As it was stated in their release the project was followed with different political and interest groups lobbying and influences, clearly stating that there were some corruption procedures in the project.
EBRD is still planning to resume the financing of this project and officially the loan payment contract is still not officially suspended.
EIB approved in 2011 loan of 110 mil euro for TPP Sostanj unit 6 project, remaining 440 mil euro is under state guaranty approval process in parliament. State supports the project but demands , conditional clause for cost increase control. Under some estimations the overall costs reached 1,2 bill euro.
