Electric Power Industry of Serbia, with its own capacities, generated more than 36 billion kilowatt-hours in 2011, which practically equalled the result from 2009 when the highest generation was achieved in 118 years long history of Serbian Electric Power Industry. This generation result is more important, because due to months-long drought, hydro power plants generated 1.9 billion kilowatt-hours less in 2011 than in 2009 which was the record year.
Customers were not affected by electricity deficit from hydro power plants, because the multi-year investment into generation capacities once again proved validity, which is proved by record generations in subsidiaries MB Kolubara, ?PP Nikola Tesla and TPPs-OCMs Kostolac. Compared to Electric Energy Balance for 2011, which EPS achieved ten days ago, EPS generation is higher for 3.1 percent, i.e. for 1.1 billion kilowatt-hours. The generation in EPS thermal power plants reached almost 26.5 billion kilowatt-hours, which has never been achieved before. Compared to the previous record, the generation in thermal power plants is higher for about 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours, and compared to 2010, it is higher for even 3.3 billion kilowatt-hours, i.e. 14.7 percent .
The supply of customers was regular
On December 31, the supply of customers was regular, without problems and it shall continue in the same manner in the following period. The import of electric energy which was on the high level in November and December, due to less kilowatt-hours generated by hydro power plants and high consumption, starting from today, January 1, shall be reduced for more than 50 percent.
This was reviewed at the Generation-technical meeting of EPS, held on January 1 in Dispatch Center of Electric Power Industry of Serbia.
Golden letters
The generation of EPS in 2011 shall be inscribed in golden letters in the history of Serbian electric power industry. The capacities, which have now achieved these record results, have been operating for more than 25-30 years. But, the investments in these capacities in the last decade, which exceeded a billion euros and which increased the power of these machines, their energy efficiency, improved the environmental protection showed that we made good decisions in the right time and that we knew how to solve these problems. EPS proved that it is a reliable generator and supplier of electric energy, which, however, still has to prove itself.
Provide Serbia with enough domestic electric energy
Time has come to make brave and good decisions again, which shall provide Serbia with enough domestic electric energy in the following decades, especially because the consumption of the cheapest power product, i.e. electric energy, was by 1.3 percent above the expected in 2011, said Zoran Manasijevic, EPS General Manager Assisstant, who presided the Generation-technical meeting.
