Electricity production in Albania in 2019 amounted to 5,208 GWh, which is almost 40 % less compared to 8,552 GWh produced in 2018.(according to the data published by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) The country’s electricity exports fell to 770.5 GWh in 2019 compared to 2,685 GWh in the year before, while electricity imports increased to 3,177 GWh from 1,772 GWh in 2018. Almost entire volume of Albania’s electricity was generated by hydropower plants, with about 49 % of electricity produced by state controlled HPPs. Electricity network losses dropped by 7.3 % in 2019 to 1,653 GWh. Distribution losses decreased by 10.9 % to 1,485 GWh in 2018, while transmission losses decreased from 242.7 GWh to 168.6 GWh.
