Serbian state-owned transmission system and market operator Elektromreza Srbije (EMS) will invest 76 million euro ($100 million) over the next five years to increase the voltage of the power transmission grid in western Serbia to 400 kilovolts, deputy prime minister Verica Kalanovic said on Thursday.
Boosting the capacity of the power transmission system in western Serbia, which has seen no investment over the past 50 years, aims to strengthen the country’s energy system and ensure reliable electricity supply for households in the region, a government statement quoted Kalanovic as saying at the presentation of an EMS project to upgrade the transmission system in the Bajina Basta area.
The statement also quoted chairman of the EMS managing board Vidoje Jevremovic as saying that the project envisages deploying a double transmission line from Bajina Basta to Obrenovac and renovating transformer stations.
