During the week of January 27, electricity demand decreased across the major European electricity markets compared to the previous week. The Dutch market saw the largest drop, with a decrease of 11%, while Spain experienced the smallest decline at 0.7%. Other markets, including Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Germany, the UK, and France, also registered declines, ranging from 1.2% in Portugal to 4.0% in France. Most markets continued their downward trend for the second consecutive week, with the British market experiencing a decline for the third straight week. However, Portugal saw a reversal after four weeks of increasing demand.
The week’s temperatures were generally milder than the previous week across most markets, with average temperatures rising by as much as 0.6°C in Italy and 1.7°C in Belgium. However, the Iberian Peninsula experienced colder temperatures compared to the previous week, with Portugal seeing a decrease of 1.0°C and Spain a 1.2°C drop.
Looking ahead to the first week of February, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting’s demand forecasts predict increases in most major European electricity markets, except in Portugal, where demand is expected to continue its downward trend, AleaSoft reports.
