During the week of March 9, electricity demand increased across most major European markets compared with the previous week. France reversed its downward trend after three consecutive weekly declines, registering the largest rise at 4.7%. Germany and Belgium also saw higher demand, increasing by 1.6% and 1.8%, respectively, following two weeks of decreases. Portugal recorded the smallest increase, 0.9%, marking its second consecutive weekly rise.
Italy, Spain, and Great Britain were exceptions, with demand declining. Italy had the smallest decrease, 1.6%, continuing a six-week downward trend. Spain and Great Britain registered larger drops of 3.7% and 5.3%, respectively.
During the week, average temperatures turned colder than the previous week in most markets analyzed. Belgium and France experienced the largest temperature drops at 2.4 °C and 1.9 °C, respectively. Spain saw the smallest decrease, 0.4 °C, while Great Britain recorded a 0.5 °C drop. Italy maintained roughly the same average temperatures, and Germany experienced a minor cooling of 0.2 °C.
For the third week of March, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts declining demand in Great Britain, Spain, Italy, and Portugal, while France, Germany, and Belgium are expected to see increases in electricity consumption, AleaSoft reports.
