During the week of March 23, electricity demand increased across most major European markets, reversing the decline seen in the previous week. The strongest growth was recorded in the French market, where demand rose by 4.4%. Smaller increases were observed in Belgium (2.2%), Germany (1.7%), and Great Britain (1.4%), while demand in Italy remained largely stable.
In contrast, the Iberian Peninsula continued to diverge from the broader trend. Portugal recorded a second consecutive weekly decline in demand, falling by 8.1%, while Spain saw its third straight weekly decrease, with demand dropping by 1.6%.
At the same time, average temperatures decreased across most of the analyzed markets, contributing to shifts in energy consumption. Temperature drops ranged from 0.5°C in Italy to 2.1°C in France, while Portugal experienced relatively stable temperatures compared to the previous week.
Looking ahead to the week of March 30, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting suggest a reversal of the recent upward trend, with electricity demand expected to decline across the main European markets, AleaSoft reports.
