In the week of February 16, solar photovoltaic energy production increased across the main European electricity markets compared to the previous week. Portugal registered the largest rise, with output surging by 95%, marking its third consecutive week of growth. Spain also extended its upward trend for the third straight week, posting a 69% increase. In Italy, production climbed 62%, continuing a four-week streak of gains. France recorded a 39% increase, reversing the decline seen the week before, while Germany posted the most modest growth at 5.4%.
Italy reached a significant milestone on Sunday, February 22, setting a new all-time February record for daily solar photovoltaic generation at 110 GWh. Looking ahead to the week of February 23, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting indicate that solar production is expected to rise further in Germany, Italy and Spain.
Wind energy also showed notable movement during the week of February 16. In Germany, wind power generation jumped 60% after two consecutive weeks of decline. Italy saw a 33% increase, reversing its previous downward trend, while France recorded its third consecutive week of growth, albeit with a modest rise of 1.7%. In contrast, wind generation fell sharply across the Iberian Peninsula, dropping 56% in Portugal and 33% in Spain.
On Tuesday, February 17, Italy established a new record for wind energy production on a February day, reaching 178 GWh. However, projections for the week of February 23 suggest that wind energy output will decrease across the main European markets, according to AleaSoft Energy Forecasting’s latest outlook.
