During the week of February 9, electricity demand declined in most major European markets compared to the previous week. The Spanish market recorded the largest drop at 5.2%, marking a third consecutive week of decline. In Germany, Italy, and Great Britain, demand fell for the second consecutive week by 3.4%, 2.4%, and 0.9%, respectively. Portugal reversed the previous week’s upward trend, declining 1.6%, while demand in Belgium remained largely unchanged. In contrast, France saw a 0.5% increase, reversing the previous week’s drop.
The decrease in demand was largely driven by less cold average temperatures across most analyzed markets, which rose between 0.5 °C in France and 2.5 °C in Germany. Exceptions included Great Britain, where temperatures fell 0.1 °C, and Belgium, which saw a drop of 1.6 °C.
For the week of February 16, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts demand increases in Germany, France, Spain, Great Britain, and Belgium, while Portugal and Italy are expected to see declines, AleaSoft reports.
