During the week of February 9, solar photovoltaic energy production rose across most major European electricity markets compared to the previous week. The Spanish market recorded the largest increase at 16%, continuing the upward trend from the previous week. The German market grew for the second consecutive week, this time by 13%, while Portugal also saw a 5% rise in solar output. The Italian market posted the smallest increase at 0.4%, extending the positive trend of the past two weeks. In contrast, the French market experienced a 27% decline in photovoltaic generation after three consecutive weeks of growth.
Notably, the Italian market reached a new all-time high for photovoltaic production for a February day, generating 89 GWh on Friday, February 13. According to AleaSoft Energy Forecasting, solar energy production during the week of February 16 is expected to increase in the German, Italian, and Spanish markets.
Regarding wind energy, during the week of February 9, the French market again recorded the largest weekly increase, rising 38% for the second consecutive week. Spain and Portugal reversed the previous week’s decline, with increases of 8.6% and 6.0%, respectively. By contrast, Germany and Italy saw declines: wind output fell 17% in Germany, continuing the previous week’s drop, and 15% in Italy after three weeks of growth.
The French market also set a new all-time high for wind energy production for a February day on February 11, generating 380 GWh. For the week of February 16, AleaSoft forecasts indicate that wind energy production will rise in Italy and Germany, while Portugal, Spain, and France are expected to see decreases in output, AleaSoft reports.
