During the week of December 23, solar photovoltaic production saw an increase in the main European electricity markets, continuing the upward trend observed the previous week. The German market recorded the largest increase at 63%, followed by the Portuguese market with a 23% rise. Solar production also increased in the Spanish, Italian, and French markets by 13%, 14%, and 19%, respectively. In Spain, this marked the sixth consecutive week of growth, AleaSoft reports.
On December 29, the Italian market set a new all-time record for daily photovoltaic production in December, generating 53 GWh, surpassing the previous record set on December 21, when 47 GWh were produced.
Looking ahead to the week of December 30, according to solar production forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting, solar production is expected to rise in Germany and Italy but decrease in Spain.
Meanwhile, wind power production decreased in most major European markets during the week of December 23 compared to the previous week. The French and German markets saw the largest drops, each with a 71% decline. In Spain and Portugal, wind power production fell by 36% and 39%, respectively. However, Italy was the exception, as wind power production increased by 47% for the second consecutive week. On Monday, December 23, Italy also set an all-time record for wind power production, generating a total of 182 GWh.
For the week of December 30, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting’s wind power production forecasts suggest a reversal of the downward trend in Germany and France, while wind production will decrease in Italy, Portugal and Spain, AleaSoft reports.
