According to data published by Greece’s electricity transmission system operator, ADMIE, electricity production from gas-fired power plants saw a remarkable increase of 107% in February 2024 compared to the same month last year.
Overall, total electricity generation across all energy sources grew by 29% year-on-year, driven by a 6.3% rise in demand and increased electricity exports. Lignite-based power generation also experienced growth, rising by 17% in February.
However, electricity output from renewable energy sources and hydropower plants fell by approximately 20% compared to the previous year.
Greek electricity exports surged by 73%, reaching 642 GWh in February, while imports dropped significantly by 72%, totaling just 202 GWh.
