Greece: Komotini gas-fired power plant secured 325 million euros loan

, SEE Energy News

A joint venture of GEK-Terna and oil refiner Motor Oil, developing the 877 MW combined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant in Komotini in northeastern Greece, secured financing for the project for 325 million euros from Eurobank and Piraeus Bank. Development of the project is well over the halfway mark (about 60-65 % completed), to enter trial operation next year.

All of the main equipment to be installed at the plant has been received, while mechanical and electrical works are in progress, along with the development of a substation and connecting transmission lines.

A Siemens HL-class gas turbine, the first to be used in Greece, was installed at the plant earlier this year, with an energy efficiency of 64%.
