Greece: PPC Renewables won a tender for a hybrid power plant, SEE Energy News
PPC Renewables won a tender launched by the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) to develop a hybrid power plant on the Dodecanese island of Astypalaea. With the new hybrid power plant, around 80% of the island’s energy needs will be produced from clean energy and it will help the island to cut its dependence from the consumption of fuel oil for electricity production.
The project will be implemented in two stages. The first stage consists of a solar power plant with a total power of 3.5 MW and battery storage with a capacity of 10 MW, covering 50% of the electricity demand. In the second stage, the power plant will expand further to reach 80% of the island’s electricity demand.
The hybrid power plant will also cover e-vehicle charge needs and will help significantly reduce CO2 emissions, simultaneously lowering electricity production costs.
