Long-term demand for LNG infrastructure in Greece has been reinforced after the country’s gas transmission operator DESFA concluded a new cycle of capacity auctions at the Revythoussa LNG terminal. The process, covering the 2026–2040 period, ran from October 2025 to January 2026 and resulted in almost full booking of the available volumes.
DESFA offered 413 LNG unloading slots, equal to about 342.5 TWh of energy or roughly 30.6 bcm of natural gas. Market participants booked 409 slots, corresponding to 340.5 TWh or 30.42 bcm, highlighting strong and sustained interest in long-term access to Greek LNG infrastructure. Participation was also robust, with up to five users per year reserving capacity.
These results are tied to recent upgrades in Greece’s gas network. New compression stations in Komotini and Ampelia, along with broader system reinforcements, have increased the ability to transport gas toward northern markets. This has bolstered Greece’s role as a reliable LNG entry point for the broader region.
A number of years had already been heavily booked before the latest auction. All cargoes for 2027, 2028 and 2029 were allocated in earlier rounds, while the remaining volumes for 2026 and 2030 were secured in the most recent process. Consequently, all LNG unloading and regasification capacity offered for those years is now fully reserved.
