Electricity consumption dropped in mid-March, when the Government introduced state of emergency due to coronavirus outbreak. On an average weekday, Hungary consumes between 6,000 and 6,200 MW of electricity.
By the beginning of last week, Hungarian electricity consumption fell even further, to about 5,800 MW, which is the same as the consumption between Christmas and the New Year in 2019.
With the decrease in consumption due to lockdown and the fact that many industrial and commercial consumers are have closed their doors, the first daily load peaks, which used to start around 8 in the morning, have shifted back to later in the day, to around noon.
