Paks II, the project company to upgrade Hungary’s only commercial nuclear power plant, is speeding up the preparation of a response to a request from the National Atomic Energy Office (OAH) for further clarification on the licensing procedure for the two new units.
This news was confirmed by Alexander Merten, Deputy Director of ASE, Rosatom’s general contractor, in an interview published in the Hungarian business daily Vilaggazdasag.
“We will provide the requested information and answers as soon as possible,” Merten said.
The OAH had until the end of September to issue an implementation permit for the two blocks, but said in October that it had requested “further clarifications” for the procedure.
The office said the documentation submitted by Pax II was “very thorough in some respects”, but added that “further assessments and analyzes are needed in some areas, taking into account the recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency mission”.
