The Government of North Macedonia adopted amendments to the Decree on the introduction of the state of emergency in energy sector, according to which, universal supplier EVN Home is no longer obliged to purchase electricity from renewable energy producers at preferential prices.
This decision would reduce expenses for electricity purchases, given the fact that EVN Home will only buy electricity from state-owned ESM at much lower price, which will limit the factors that affect the price increase for end-users.
In addition, given the high prices of electricity on the open market, the electricity generated by eligible RES producers will be distributed to all other suppliers and traders. This will increase the share of electricity from producers eligible for feed -in tariffs in the total portfolio of suppliers and traders, who will also benefit from this decision as the average price for electricity supplied by these producers is currently significantly lower than market prices.
