Investment platform MetaWealth has secured 19 million euros to finance a 50 MW/100 MWh battery storage project in Romania, the first financed asset in a wider storage portfolio under development.
Construction of the Dumbrava battery energy storage system in Neamt county is under way, with Parapet Group acting as EPC contractor.
Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in April 2027. The project has obtained grid-connection approval and its main equipment packages are ready for delivery.
CEC Bank is providing about 10 million euros through a seven-year senior debt facility.
Another 9 million euros will come from sponsor and investor equity, including 5.5 million euros from the Topolinski family and 3.5 million euros from institutional and private investors participating through MetaWealth Luxembourg and authorised distributors.
BRD Asset Management, part of Societe Generale, has committed 500,000 euros.
MetaWealth says its Romanian battery portfolio could eventually reach around 850 MWh, with total investment across identified and developing projects estimated at about 160 million euros.
The storage build-out is taking place alongside rapid Romanian solar expansion. Around 2.2 GW of solar capacity was installed in 2025, while total capacity exceeded 8.5 GW in August 2026, according to figures in the document.
MetaWealth plans to use the Dumbrava financing structure as a template for additional projects, combining sponsor capital, outside investors, domestic bank financing and development partners.
