Romanian renewable energy project developer Monsson Group said on Thursday it has already contracted plans to connect 220 megawatts (MW) to the grid in 2013.
So far, Monsson Group has developed 40% of Romania’s 2,000 MW of installed wind capacity worth more than 3.6 billion euro ($4.8 billion), Sebastian Enache, business development manager Monsson Group.
Asked about the biggest challenges in Romania, Enache said that the most important problems for the group, as well as for the rest of the players on the Romanian energy market, are reduced power consumption and the unstable electricity transmission infrastructure. “The challenges that stand before us are proper industrialisation, an accurate production forecast for renewable energy sources and their integration into a smart grid,” he added.
Monsson is involved in different pilot projects aimed at supporting the development of a smart grid in Romania.
Currently present on the Romanian and Hungarian wind markets, Monsson Group has developed projects with a total capacity of 2,400 MW in Romania, including 1,700 MW that have already received relevant authorisation. The company has built some 818 MW in the country and has sold projects with a total capacity of 850 MW to companies such as CEZ, OMV Petrom, ButanGas and STEAG.
Monsson Group comprises four companies, Monsson Alma, Wind Power Energy, Monsson Operation and Monsson Energy Trading, which develop, operate and provide consultation services for wind and solar parks, as well as trade energy.
