Montenegro: Cross border interconnection 400KV to boost electricity trading with Italy
, SEE Energy NewsProject of 400 kV interconnection of Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is a project of connecting the transmission systems of these three countries by 400 KV transmission line, in order to create a connection with interconnected cable between Montenegro and Italy, is one of the regional priority projects actualized especially after Berlin initiative, said the Minister of Economy Vladimir Kavaric after meeting with the Minister of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Antic.
“Interconnected cable with Italy, as it is known, is the project that opens up perspective of the region in the energy sector, through direct connection to the EU market”, reminded the Montenegrin Minister of Economy.
Kavaric said that it was agreed at meeting in Belgrade to create a joint team of the two ministries at the expert level with an aim to consider all the technical issues for the realization of the hydroelectric facilities and systems of common interest.
“It was concluded that an invitation should be sent to the competent institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely of Republika Srpska”. In addition, as the Minister Kavaric pointed out, it was agreed to continue cooperation on research works on the project HPP Komarnica. Also the Minister of Energy and Mining of Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Antic agrees that regional cooperation, particularly in the field of energy as an economic sector that has no borders, is the best way that all countries in the region provide its citizens a safe and stable supply with the possibility of linking with other markets. Minister Antic announced that from August this year would begin to operate the joint venture transmission system of Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of ensuring the security of electricity supply. “We will invite all surrounding countries to join us in this”, Antic announced.
At the meeting of the two ministers also attended by the Ambassador of Montenegro in the Republic of Serbia, Branislav Micunovic, were exchanged information related to the implementation of projects that are in progress, activities in the hydropower field, as well as the possibilities of cooperation in this field.
It was agreed that the next meeting should be held in September in Montenegro, which would be attended by representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska.
