The average electricity bill for Montenegrin households increased to €33.80 in June 2026, reflecting higher seasonal consumption as warmer weather lifted residential demand.
The average was 16 per cent above May’s €29.15 and 7.8 per cent higher than the €31.34 recorded in June 2025. State-owned power utility EPCG reported household consumption of 119.2 million kWh, an increase of 13.17 per cent month on month and 3.87 per cent year on year.
Regional differences remained considerable. Kolašin recorded the lowest average monthly bill at €20.40, while the coastal municipality of Kotor registered the highest at €43.90. The gap reflects differences in climate, household occupancy, tourism-related activity and the use of electricity for cooling.
Despite the monthly increase, most bills remained relatively low. Approximately 62.63 per cent of households will pay less than €30, while 19.19 per cent will receive bills between €30 and €50. A further 13.95 per cent fall within the €50–€100 range, and 4.23 per cent face charges above €100.
EPCG granted discounts to 150,613 customers with regular payment records, representing approximately 36.3 per cent of Montenegro’s consumer base. The discount mechanism continues to moderate the effective cost paid by compliant households and supports the utility’s collection rate.
The June figures show that consumption growth is beginning to move ahead of the increase in the average bill. Household electricity use rose more than 13 per cent from May, while the average charge increased 16 per cent, indicating that both higher volume and the distribution of consumption across tariff periods contributed to the movement.
For EPCG, summer demand provides additional domestic sales but also increases exposure to hydrological conditions and wholesale-market imports. Montenegro’s household tariffs remain comparatively protected from daily market volatility, leaving the utility to manage the difference between regulated retail revenue and the cost of electricity required during expensive summer hours.
