The average household electricity bill in Montenegro rose to €49.31 in August, up 25% from a year earlier as summer demand increased sharply, state utility EPCG said.
The average bill was also 16.4% higher than July’s €42.36.
Households consumed 173.6 million kWh during August, an increase of 21.25% from the same month of 2025 and 17.48% from July.
Ulcinj recorded the highest average bill at €89.10, reflecting heavy summer demand in the coastal municipality. Pljevlja had the lowest at €21.70.
Just over half of households received bills below €30, while 18.14% paid between €30 and €50. Another 19.97% were billed between €50 and €100, and 10.32% received bills exceeding €100.
EPCG granted payment discounts to 117,336 customers, representing about 28.2% of consumers.
The increase highlights the impact of tourism, air-conditioning and seasonal population growth on Montenegro’s summer power balance. With domestic generation exposed to hydrological conditions, stronger coastal consumption can also increase the utility’s need for market purchases during expensive peak periods.
