Total electricity consumption in North Macedonia in December 2025 reached 821,436 MWh, while natural gas consumption amounted to 47.06 million cubic meters, coal consumption totaled 261,591 tons, and petroleum products usage stood at 100,606 tons. According to the State Statistical Office, 78.4% of the consumed electricity was covered by domestic production, and 99.6% of total coal consumption was used for electricity generation.
Total gross electricity production in December 2025 stood at 644,061 MWh, marking an 8.4% increase compared to December 2024. Thermal power plants produced 159,572 MWh (24.8% of total, -34.3% vs December 2024), hydropower plants generated 217,104 MWh (33.7%, +57.7%), and CHP plants produced 167,544 MWh (26%, +24.9%). Wind farms contributed 31,571 MWh (4.9%), biogas power plants produced 4,445 MWh, and solar power plants (including prosumers) generated 63,825 MWh (9.9%).
Electricity imports totaled 270,383 MWh, compared to 317,074 MWh in December 2024, while exports reached 93,008 MWh (81,812 MWh in December 2024). The data highlights significant growth in hydropower and CHP production, partially offsetting declines in thermal output, while domestic generation continues to cover the majority of national electricity demand.
