North Macedonian state-owned power utility ESM announced that unit 1 of coal-fired thermal power plant Bitola will be taken offline for a 30-day overhaul before the start of the heating season. At the same time, coal-fired TPP Oslomej will be put into operation, while TPP Negotino, which runs on heating oil, will enter operation on 22 September.
Statement from the company said that, due to ongoing energy crisis, planned overhaul of unit 1 is shorter than usual, but is still necessary in order to secure reliable source of electricity and thermal energy during the winter season.
After the completion of unit overhaul, maintenance works on unit 2 should commence. In the meantime, it is expected that unit 3 of TPP Bitola will also be put into operation.
