CEOs of Greece’s DESFA, Bulgaria’s Bulgartransgaz, Romania’s Transgaz, Moldova’s Vestmoldtransgaz, and Ukraine’s GTSOU met in Athens to reinforce regional energy collaboration. They signed a joint declaration urging their national regulatory authorities to approve the extension of the monthly capacity product Route 1 for the 2025–2026 gas year.
The operators emphasized that the extension is crucial for maintaining steady gas deliveries to Ukraine during the winter and for strengthening the Vertical Gas Corridor, a strategic route transporting natural gas and LNG from Greece northward to central and southeastern Europe. The corridor enhances supply security and cross-border market efficiency, serving as a key pillar of regional energy integration.
Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou welcomed the initiative, calling it a significant step in establishing the Vertical Gas Corridor as Europe’s central energy artery. DESFA CEO Maria Rita Galli highlighted the corridor’s role in diversifying energy supply and ensuring security across southeastern and central-eastern Europe. She noted that the collaboration aligns with the EU’s REPowerEU objectives, guaranteeing reliable gas access for Ukraine and neighboring countries.
Through this joint effort, the regional operators aim to build a more resilient and sustainable gas network across the continent.
