Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that Hungary anticipates closer energy coordination with Serbia and Slovakia once MOL Group completes the acquisition of the Serbian oil company NIS.
According to Minister Szijjarto, finalizing the transaction would allow the oil markets of the three landlocked countries — Hungary, Slovakia, and Serbia — to operate in a more integrated and coordinated manner. He noted that such alignment would strengthen their resilience against external political pressures affecting energy supply routes.
The Minister also confirmed that Budapest and Belgrade have agreed to accelerate preparatory work for a new cross-border oil pipeline linking the two countries. The planned infrastructure aims to diversify supply routes and reinforce energy security, particularly in light of recent disruptions. He emphasized that the new pipeline would not only enhance stability for Hungary and Serbia, but also contribute to broader energy integration in Central Europe.
Minister Szijjarto pledged full governmental support to MOL in completing its regional expansion strategy.
His remarks followed a meeting with Serbian Energy Minister Dubravka Đedovic, held on the sidelines of an international conference in Washington focused on energy cooperation between the United States and Eastern European countries.
