Renalfa IPP has expanded its Devnya solar plant in northeastern Bulgaria from 5 MW to 65 MW and added a 60 MW/165 MWh battery, giving the project the ability to shift some output away from solar generation hours.
Solarpro Technology carried out the expansion as engineering, procurement and construction contractor. Renalfa has used a similar approach at Kaolinovo, where a 60 MW solar plant is paired with 33 MW/110 MWh of storage.
The Devnya upgrade increases generation at a site already connected to the grid, while the battery gives its operator more choice over when to sell power. That flexibility is becoming more valuable as additional solar supply puts pressure on prices during daylight hours.
