The mayor of Trebinje Slavko Vučurević announced that will require citizens of Eastern Herzegovina to declare by referendum whether they agree that the basic resource of Trebinje and Herzegovina – hydro potential is consigned, as he said, to some Italian corporation that has no reference to the job.
– We will call all the municipalities where hydro power plants should be built to vote on the referendum and we will let the people to declare whether they agree to hand over our basic potential to the company of which we know nothing – said Vucurevic.
At a press conference in Trebinje, he said that direct negotiations over awarding concessions for use hydropower is unacceptable practice.
– The company from Italy that is supposed to build hydro power plants on the Drina river upon the preliminary contract, in its own country produces macaroni. I think it is inappropriate in relation to the citizens of the RS – said Vucurevic.
He said that the Italian firm does not meet the European standards on the production of renewable energy and that on this account it needs the resources from RS and BiH.
