In the period from January 1 to March 31, 2022, the consumption of Romanian households decreased by 4.4% compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Friday.
At the same time, industrial consumption fell by 1.1%, consumption for street lighting increased by 1.3%, while total electricity consumption in Romania decreased by 2% in the first quarter.
Electricity production was also reduced, by 5.7%, to 14.8 TWh. The largest decline in production was recorded by hydropower plants – by 25%.
On the other hand, the production of renewable sources increased by 24% when it comes to wind turbines and by 18% in photovoltaic power plants.
Technological consumption in networks and stations was lower by 1.2%.
Exports of electricity decreased by 9.2%, to 1,460 TWh, and imports increased by 13.1%, to 2,122 TWh.
