A significant expansion of wind energy capacity is advancing in Romania, as OMV Petrom and RNV Infrastructure have approved final investment decisions for several projects now entering the construction phase.
The developments, with a combined capacity of around 300 MW, have already secured all necessary permits and are expected to begin producing electricity gradually from the first half of 2027. This marks a clear shift from planning to active execution across multiple wind sites.
These projects are part of a broader partnership established in 2024, when OMV Petrom acquired a 50% stake in a portfolio of wind assets developed through Electrocentrale Borzești. The cooperation reflects a wider strategy focused on accelerating renewable deployment and strengthening the company’s role in the energy transition.
Within the portfolio, several wind farms are currently progressing. In Bacău County, planned facilities include the Gura Văii and Podu Turcului sites, while additional projects in Galați County are also moving forward. One of the larger developments in Galați is still awaiting a final investment decision, which is expected at a later stage.
OMV Petrom continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio, with ambitions to exceed 2.5 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2030 in partnership with other assets. The company currently has more than 1,100 MW under development, with construction activities and equipment deliveries already underway across its project pipeline.
