A new renewable energy project has come online in Romania, as Astronergy has commissioned a 31 MW solar power plant and is preparing to integrate battery storage at the same site.
The facility is located in Slătioara, Vâlcea County, and is operated by Necaluxan Solthree, a company within Astronergy’s European structure. Development of the project began in 2023, and it obtained its operational license earlier this year, allowing for the start of commercial electricity production.
The next stage of development will focus on adding a battery energy storage system, which is planned to have a capacity of approximately 14.4 MW. This addition is expected to improve system flexibility and enable better integration of variable solar generation into the grid.
In parallel, Astronergy continues to expand its presence in Romania’s renewable sector through another project developed under GIBE Energy, which the company acquired in 2024. That project involves a 55 MW solar plant planned in Hunedoara County, further strengthening its investment footprint in the country.
Astronergy’s parent company, the Chint Group, has been active in Romania for more than 20 years, building a portfolio of solar projects supported in part by financing from the China Development Bank Corporation.
