A major new solar facility has started operations in southern Romania, significantly boosting the country’s renewable energy capacity. CWP Europe has completed and commissioned a 174 MW solar power plant in the commune of Studina, Olt County.
The plant is expected to generate around 245,000 MWh of electricity annually, enough to supply over 122,500 households and avoid approximately 220,500 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. While the total investment was not disclosed, the developer confirmed that permitting is already secured for an adjacent battery energy storage system, designed to complement the solar facility and improve grid flexibility.
Construction of the project involved multiple international and regional partners. Siemens Energy provided technical support, SolarPro Holding served as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor, and Romanian energy services provider Eximprod contributed to plant delivery.
CWP Europe acquired the Studina project in 2023, initially aiming for commercial operation by the end of 2024. With commissioning now complete, the facility stands as one of the company’s key operational assets in Romania.
