Romania: Decreasing of fuel consumption in 2020
, SEE Energy NewsDue to the coronavirus pandemic, fuel consumption in Romania will fall by 10% this year, and demand will not return to pre-pandemic levels earlier than 2022, said OMV Petrom’s Downstream Oil director Radu Caprau.
Caprau said that in the second quarter, the demand for oil products was strongly affected, which will be reflected in year-on-year decreases, despite a recovery trend in the following period, which is better than initially estimated.
According to OMV Petrom’s data, in the first half of 2020 the demand for fuels on the retail market decreased by 13 % compared to the same period last year. The strongest decrease was recorded in the second quarter of the year, respectively 25 % compared to the second quarter of 2019.
