Depogaz, a subsidiary of the Romgaz group and Romania’s largest operator of underground gas storage, has awarded a €50 million contract to Foraj Sonde Videle for the enhancement of the daily extraction capacity at its Bilciuresti gas storage facility.
The project, co-financed by European funds, aims to increase the extraction capacity at Bilciuresti to 20 million cubic meters per day. This initiative is part of the Priority Corridor 6 project, which focuses on strengthening North-South gas interconnections in Central and Eastern Europe.
Adrian Cretoiu, Chairman of the Board at Foraj Sonde Videle, highlighted that the Bilciuresti project is not only significant on a national level but also crucial for European energy security. The project will begin in 2025 and is expected to take 32 months to complete. In addition to enhancing Romania’s energy security, the project will contribute to regional development by generating employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases.
Bilciuresti, located near Bucharest, is Romania’s largest gas storage facility, one of seven in the country, and is operated by Depogaz Ploiesti, a subsidiary of Romgaz. The capacity upgrade will play a key role in meeting the growing energy needs of the region.
