Romania: DNA examines Romgaz’s takeover of ExxonMobil’s stake in Neptun Deep project, SEE Energy News
Prosecutors of the Romanian National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) requested information from state-controlled natural gas producer Romgaz on the transaction regarding the acquisition by Romgaz of the 50% stake in the Neptun Deep offshore project from US company ExxonMobil.
The prosecutors investigate the alleged abuse of office related to the price paid by Romgaz for the 50% stake, with suspicions of an overpriced acquisition, according to local media.
In August 2022, Romgaz completed the takeover of all shares of ExxonMobil’s local subsidiary that held a 50% stake in the Black Sea Neptun Deep gas project for 1.06 billion dollars. The contract for the acquisition was signed in early May.
